Italian Master Stone Carver Roberto Chiti uses long, metal, power tools, smaller hand tools, a lathe and sand paper to turn a block of alabaster into a bowl during a demonstration at Middletown High School. Chiti visited the Appoquinimink School District for six weeks as part of the districts new Artist in Residence program that connects Delaware with the City of Volterra, Italy through art. His work will be on display at from April 4 to July 21 at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover. The museum will host The Sculpture of Light: Volterra, Italy in Delaware, an exhibit that features more than 200 pieces of ancient alabaster sculptures that were created by Etruscans.
